Tariffs and the Chicken Tax

With Donald Trump's tariffs headline news, this Plant Money video is a great example of the unintended effects of protectionist policies.

In response to German tariffs placed on US chicken, President Lyndon B Johnson imposed a 25 percent tariff on trucks coming into the states from Germany. This resulted in some surprising unintended consequences, including Ford manufacturing passenger vehicles which avoided the tax, before stripping them of seats after passing customs checks to sell as trucks.
